For the first time in it’s history, The Black Consciosness holiday is established in all states of Brazil, becoming a national holiday. In a post at the X social media, former Twitter, Anielle Franco, the Minister of Racial Equality, shared these words to her followers, and we would like to endorse:
“Tomorrow Brazil celebrates for the first time, nationally, the Black Consciousness holiday, in honor of the black leader Zumbi dos Palmares. Established by Law 14.759/2023, the holiday is a legacy of this administration. The result of a movement by the Brazilian government, in partnership with parliament and social movements, it marks the relevance of Afro-Brazilian culture and history for the country. Celebrating black consciousness is remembering who we are, where we come from, and what it means to be a country with a black majority, respecting and promoting diversity and the appreciation of all Brazilians.”
